Doris Lindauer is a freelance artist focusing on landscape and still life subjects. Her inspiration comes from the abundance of beauty and variety that nature offers. The colors, forms and textures offer a vast opportunity for interpretation. She primarily works with pastels and acrylics. Her work has been shown at Atlantic Gallery in New York City and at the Stable Gallery in Ridgewood, New Jersey.

Doris grew up in New York City and remembers always her desire to draw or create a "pretty picture". Her experience at the High School of  Music and Art confirmed her decision to continue developing her skills, concentrating on figure drawing. She attended the Fashion Institute of Technology, studying fashion illustration and advertising design. After graduation she worked as a commercial illustrator and layout artist.

A changing lifestyle included marriage, a move to Bergen County, New Jersey and raising two daughters. Doris worked in early childhood education programs, eventually becoming Business Director at Hillsdale United Nursery School.  She was one of the founders and core participants in her school district’s volunteer program, "Artist In The Classroom," a program that introduces children to well known artists and their work, while encouraging their own creativity.

Since her retirement, Doris has picked up the paintbrush again, and is also continuing the study of figure drawing and using the medium of pastel. In addition to her artistic endeavors, Doris enjoys spending time with her family, travel, visiting art museums, and gardening.

I'm drawn to landscape and still life as subject matter for their ornamental and decorative quality. When I can’t paint from life my photographs are a starting point for a painting. Composing a painting using acrylics or pastel to interpret colors, light and forms from nature or using interesting, attractive objects is challenging and always evolving.
